Case Study | Maintenance | Enhancing vehicle’s exhaust pipe Appearance and Rust Protection at a Car Dealership

The Challenge

A car dealership in Hokkaido, Japan, was looking for a coating solution to improve the appearance of their vehicles’ underbody—specifically, the muffler’s silencer area. This part, located at the car’s rear, reaches temperatures of 50–60°C during operation, so any product used must offer sufficient heat resistance.

In addition, as a cold region, Hokkaido’s winter road conditions require calcium chloride for snow melting, which causes corrosion and visual degradation. The dealership needed a solution to protect and restore the look of the affected components.

The Solution

NCH Asia Pacific recommended Stay Put, a stainless-steel-based spray coating with excellent performance characteristics that effectively addressed the customer’s requirements.

Key Benefits

  • Heat Resistance: Stay Put forms a heat-resistant coating that can withstand temperatures up to 600°C, making it suitable for use on components that heat up during engine operation.
  • Visual Restoration: With its sleek silver finish, Stay Put significantly improved the appearance of the mufflers, which had previously shown signs of surface rust.
  • Quick Drying: Stay Put dries quickly, allowing for a second coat 30 minutes after the first application.

Thanks to the use of Stay Put, the customer achieved a coating that offered both high heat resistance and visual appeal. This enhanced the vehicles’ durability and increased customer satisfaction at the dealership.
