Did You Know? Issue 05 The way to a more efficient industrial cleaning

FIND THE RIGHT DEGREASER, SAVE RESOURCES

Let’s face it, grease and grime are tough to clean, especially with industrial equipment. To protect the quality of your investment and minimize asset replacement, you need to use the right kind of degreaser. It is a specialized cleaner designed to remove grease, grime, oils, handling soils, and other contamination common in assembly and many other industrial-grade machinery.[1]

Since regular cleaning and degreasing is integral in industrial maintenance, quality degreasers help decrease the time spent on manpower and energy, since its main purpose is to remove offending soil quickly, lessening the hassle of wiping and scrubbing as much as possible. Using degreasers to complement an inspection program will even help uncover machine abnormalities that can be corrected before it fails.

When looking for the best degreaser, consider these factors in regards to performance and safety: flammability, dielectric strength, plastic and rubber compatibility, toxicity, and environmental impact. Another aspect to look for is the type of degreaser. There are two types, water-based and solvent-based, each with their own proper applications. So be sure to choose the right degreaser for the job.

Mostly used in manufacturing, agriculture and the food and beverage industries, water-based degreasers are typically non-flammable and penetrates and lifts oil and grime with minimal effort. Using water as a primary component, it removes dust, and dirt from various surfaces like metal, vinyl, plastic, rubber, concrete, and stone, without causing damage. It can also be diluted to adapt to the proper cleaning level.

To dissolve heavy grease, tar and soil from equipment, solvent-based degreasers are derived from petroleum or natural oils that dissolve stubborn fats and soil, breaking it down into smaller particles that are easily carried away by the formed chemical solution. These solvent-based degreasers are more commonly used in the automotive, rail, marine, aerospace, mechanical and power industries.

Degreasing is not just about cleaning. The right degreaser will not only do the job right but will help you save on time, energy, labor and most importantly offer safety and maintain environmental responsibility.

NCH DELIVERS INNOVATIVE AND QUALITY DEGREASING

One of NCH’s proud offerings is our Degreaser Program that includes degreasing products, dilution equipment and application equipment designed to help maintenance and facility managers.

Our flagship degreasing products are all suitable for various business environments. The dilution equipment in the program is used to refill bottles, buckets and sprayers with the degreasers to ensure optimum dilution based on customer’s needs. Lastly, our application equipment can transform our degreasers into foam to maximize cleaning power, or a spray to cover a wider area.

This cost effective maintenance program is best used for HVAC cleaning, Electrical Cleaning, Floor & Wall Cleaning, Descaling, Machine Cleaning, Industrial Hygiene, Hood/Duct Cleaning, and Fleet Cleaning. With this, companies can protect assets, minimize downtime and create a safer environment.
