Article | Why maintaining your HVAC systems clean will be a return on investment?

Just like any other device, HVAC systems require routine inspection, and maintaining clean A/C coils and chiller systems will ensure a trouble-free cooling process for the facility.

Potential Problems with dirty a/c coils

# 1 High Pressure drop

When the pressure drop is high between the return and supply air, the AIR FILTERS need cleaning or replacement.

#2 Low flow rate of Supply Air

When the flow rate of supply air is low, the AIR FILTERS need cleaning or replacement.

#3 Low temperature drop

In spite of the air filter, the surface of the aluminium fin coils tends to get contaminated by airborne foreign particles or substances or oxidized due to the humid environment inside the casing. Both contamination and oxidation film become an insulation barrier that hinders the heat transfer between the air and refrigerant in the coils.

Why Clean A/C Coils?

  • A clean A/C unit uses less electricity Dirty coils can cause head pressure to be 10%–20% higher, thereby increasing unnecessary wear and tear on motors, compressors, capacitors, switches, etc.

  • Dirt and corrosion reduce the efficiency of the units, which causes them to run too frequently – A coil is designed to transfer heat. Dirt and corrosion act as insulators that interfere with heat transfer.

  • Coil cleaning eliminates downtime – Regular cleaning reduces downtime due to breakdowns.
