Case Study | Innovative Solution to Repair Leaking Gas Pipes Without Production Shutdown

The Starch and Vegetable Fats and Oils Manufacturing industry is vital to the Malaysian economy. With the growing demand for palm oil, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil, companies are pushing for sustainability and green production to meet global needs. One such company faced a major issue with leaking Ammonia gas pipes that could not be fixed with welding, and stopping production for repairs was not an option.

The leaking Ammonia gas pipe posed a significant threat to the company’s workers and the environment, leading to hazardous issues and gas wastage. To address this problem, the company required a solution that could fix the leak online without interrupting production.

After careful consideration and research, the company turned to innovative repair solutions to address the leaking Ammonia gas pipe. They needed to seal the pipe online without causing any disruption to production.

The first step involved using Aqua Stick, a repair solution that works in wet conditions and can stop leaks while repairs are completed, reducing downtime. Aqua Stick was applied to the leaking pipe, and the leakage immediately stopped.

The next step involved using Dyna Stretch & Seal, which seals instantly and under pressure of up to 11 bars. It provides excellent moisture resistance and can be applied even when fully submerged. Dyna Stretch & Seal helped to provide additional moisture resistance and sealed the leaking pipe under pressure.

Finally, Mega Pipe Repair HD was used to apply a fast-curing resin impregnated, water-activated repair bandage specifically designed for repairing cracked and damaged pipes carrying a wide variety of chemicals. The excellent temperature, chemical, and corrosion resistance made it ideal for protecting pipe work from corrosion caused by various media.

Using this three-step approach, the leaking Ammonia gas pipe was repaired without interrupting production, providing an innovative solution that resolved the issue of a hazardous leak while maintaining efficient production.

Companies must always be ready to face challenges and find solutions that are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. This experience showed how innovative repair solutions can provide a practical and reliable way to address issues such as leaking pipes without affecting production.
