Outbreaks of Legionnaire&#8217;s disease originate from human exposure to water droplets from purpose-built HVAC systems (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). These units provide the optimum environmental conditions for the bacteria to thrive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>CONSIDER CHEMICAL WATER TREATMENTS TO COMBAT LEGIONELLA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Chemical water treatments are highly recommended for any facility. In some cases, the law dictates that they are used to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nchasia.com\/en-in\/solutions\/water-treatment\/legionella\">prevent cases of legionnaires\u2019 disease<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; which can at times be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of factors to consider to help determine if your establishment would benefit from a chemical water treatment. You should be using chemical treatments if:<\/p>\n<p>You have the responsibility of a high-risk establishment; these include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Hotels<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants<\/li>\n<li>Schools<\/li>\n<li>Public pools<\/li>\n<li>Hospitals<\/li>\n<li>Nursing homes<\/li>\n<li>Your system stores or re-circulates water at temperatures above 20\u00b0C or below 60\u00b0 The optimum temperature for legionella bacteria to thrive is between 20\u00b0C-45\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>There are signs of scaling, sludge, grime or other fouling that provide a source of nutrients for bacteria to breed &#8211; even a small amount can be harmful to your health.<\/li>\n<li>Your water systems have not been used recently \u2013 stagnant water offers the ideal breeding ground for bacteria to thrive in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How do chemical treatments prevent Legionnaires\u2019 disease?<\/p>\n<p>Treatments often contain a combination of chemicals.
