From Nervous Beginnings to Confident Wins: Mauricio Silva’s Vibrant Adventure at NCH

Hello, I’m Mauricio Silva, a BDM candidate in the Lube program here at NCH, and I currently work in sales. My job involves proposing high-quality lubricants to various companies and working closely with them to solve their unique challenges. Every day brings new opportunities to build relationships and make a difference in the field, and that’s what makes my work so exciting!

Memorable Moments and Unforgettable Lessons

One of my most memorable moments at NCH was during a training session with our managers. I was in the middle of a negotiation with a new customer, and at first, he seemed a little reserved. But as the conversation progressed, his demeanor changed completely. Thanks to the manager’s exceptional communication skills, the atmosphere became so relaxed that the customer even started sharing stories about his hobbies! Witnessing this shift was a powerful reminder of how important connection is in our work. It’s amazing how genuine conversations can turn a nervous encounter into a friendly exchange.

Finding Joy in Every Conversation

What I love most about my role at NCH is meeting different people and learning from them. Every customer has a unique story, and I find joy in discovering their interests and passions. Whether we’re discussing their latest hobby or diving deep into their business needs, these interactions are always enriching and fun. It’s not just about selling a product—it’s about building relationships and learning along the way.

Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Wins

Starting out at NCH wasn’t always smooth sailing, though. I vividly remember the first time I visited a customer on my own. I was so nervous that I stumbled over my words, but then, something amazing happened—the customer decided to buy the product! That initial excitement was quickly followed by panic when I realized I had given the wrong price. I rushed back to the customer, explained the mistake, and managed to resolve the issue. It was a stressful moment, but I learned that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you’re willing to correct them and move forward.

A Little About Me

Outside of work, I’m a pretty talkative person—I love communicating with people from all walks of life. It’s a big part of why I joined NCH in the first place. I believed my communication skills could make a real difference here, and I’ve found that to be true. There’s a lot of hard work involved, but seeing the results of my efforts makes it all worthwhile. Achieving my goals and growing a little more each day keeps me motivated.

A Message to Those Who Don’t Know NCH Yet

Since joining NCH, I’ve learned to turn challenges into opportunities. There have been moments when things didn’t go as planned, but my MGR taught me something invaluable: when you’re in a tough spot, focus on the customer in front of you and give it your all without rushing. This mindset has helped me stay calm and determined, even in the face of refusals or setbacks.

The best part of training at NCH is how our managers lead by example. It’s one thing to hear their advice, but seeing them put those lessons into practice is truly inspiring. I strive to emulate that kind of leadership every day. Being out in the field comes with its ups and downs, but I’ve learned that if you keep trying and don’t give up, the results will come.

Advice for Newcomers

To anyone starting their journey at NCH, I’d like to share one piece of advice: “Do the best you can with what you can control.” Focus on what’s in your power, and don’t let the rest bring you down. If you believe in the process, trust your manager, and put in the hard work, you’ll surely find success. And remember, at NCH, your efforts don’t just bring results—they bring opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally.

I’m grateful for the chance to be part of this journey, and I’m excited about what the future holds.
