Industries where food is prepared, such as catering and hospitality, are at an increased risk of problems caused by grease.
These problems include contamination, foul odors, and damage to wastewater systems.
WHY DOES GREASE CLOG DRAINS?
Drains, pipe systems, and grease traps are a few of the common areas that are impacted by grease. Burst water pipes occur often when drains aren’t effectively maintained, resulting in unexpected repair costs. When left to amass, over time, fats, oils, and grease will restrict the size of the pipe and eventually block it completely. This blockage will lead to a build-up of pressure, which will cause the pipe to burst.
Pipes are also more at risk of corrosion if they aren’t regularly treated. In commercial kitchens, grease accumulations in drains contain organic acids. This stagnant bacteria will cause significant corrosion to the pipe if it isn’t dealt with quickly and efficiently.
REMOVE GREASE WITH POWERFUL INDUSTRIAL CLEANERS
Grease is an organic material; if it has been left to build-up, it is best removed with an alkaline solution. This is because higher PH levels will break down fats, oils, and grease more effectively. The higher the PH level of the industrial cleaner, the easier it will lift build-ups of organic matter.
Professional industrial cleaners that tackle grease use a process called saponification. This process helps with the removal of grease by converting fat or oil into soap and alcohol, which can be easily carried out of a drainage system.
NCH Facilities has a range of robust cleaning solutions ideal for areas with organic matter such as grease, food, hair, and oil. ND66 is a granular product by NCH that can be applied straight to the drain system to quickly dissolve build-ups, without causing any pipework damage. See ND66 in action below:
