Case Study | Chem-Aqua | Luxury Hotel & Casino Improves Cooling Water System Efficiency Profitably and Sustainably

A famous luxury hotel and casino contacted NCH Asia Pacific to improve the efficiency of its cooling water system and help them achieve energy and water savings. The hotel was keen to adopt a sustainable approach to reduce their Total Organic Carbon (TOC), carbon footprint, and chemical usage. NCH Chem-aqua recommended the following water treatment solutions based on their needs: Mini-wave, Filtration, bioeXile, Actichlor, MB215, Handichem Solid Program, Handipak, and aquaDART. The treatment outcome shared to us is very positive:

Water Savings

• The cooling system was able to reuse recycled water from STP instead of fresh make-up water due to effective microbiological control in the cooling water.
• Savings of 50 M3/day of city water by safely reusing recycled water back into the cooling tower.
• The cleanliness of the cooling system was maintained and managed to retain the 1.2–1.7°C approach temperature all the time.
• Optimized chemical dosage due to real-time monitoring of chemical residuals.

Lower Energy Consumption

• The approach of the chiller was maintained within 1.2 -1.8 deg C.
• Savings of 108 Kw units of power per year.

Chemical Usage and Storage

• Eliminated the need for drum handling, storage, and disposal.
• Product loading only required handling a bottle which can be easily moved throughout the building on a cart.
• Efficient and convenient removal of micro-biofilm.
• Maintenance of the cleanliness of the cooling system.

The overall result in numbers were also impressive:

• Water savings of 18,250 cubic meters/year
• Carbon footprint reduction amounting to 98 tons for 7 years
• Greenhouse effect reduction – 37 trees/year saved and usage of 3 barrels of oil
• Savings of 108 Kw units of power per year

Our sustainability partnership program with this hotel was highly successful.
